Los Angeles

Celebrities, movie cameras, and persistent paparazzi may be the hallmarks of present-day Los Angeles, but the second largest city in the United States has a rich and varied history that extends far beyond the glitter of the silver screen.

LA is the entertainment capital of the world, a cultural mecca boasting more than 300 museums, and a paradise of good weather. From tourist attractions like the Walk of Fame to the largest historical theatre district on the National Register of Historic Places- Los Angeles is definitely the place to be.

This city is full of huge attractions- the most notable of which is perhaps Disneyland. There are also plenty of cultural institutions- like the world famous Getty Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

There is an extremely broad mix of people in the area from the outrageously glamorous and the exuberantly wealthy- to hippy health stores advocates- who altogether make LA’s bustling streets perfect for people watching.

As the entertainment capital of the world- it goes without saying that LA has an abundance of nightlife on offer from night clubs to comedy clubs- not to mention the thousands of bars that stretch along the streets catering to any style and choice of music to match your preference.

LA is also a shopper’s paradise but it comes quite costly. All the major labels are on every corner- as are souvenir stores. If you’re on a tight budget you’ll probably still want to window-shop around Tiffanies and Barneys- just to have a brief dabble into this immersive commercial culture.

Things to do

Disney Land
This 50-year-old &ldquoMagic Kingdom&rdquo is just as popular as ever with it’s fabulous rides, shows, and cartoon characters attracting millions of visitors every year. The park is divided up into 6 main lands: Adventure land, Frontier land, Fantasyland, Toontown, Tomorrow Land and Main Street USA. New rides and shows are constantly worked in so the park has a constant mix of the fresh and familiar.

Knott’s Berry Farm
If you like your theme parks a little less hectic- Knott’s Berry Farm will be perfect for you. This theme park has several themed areas geared at both big and little kids like Old West, Ghost Town and Camp Snoopy to name but a few. Thrill seekers will not be disappointed either as there are many hair-raising rides to be taken in along the way!

The Pacific Coast
Why not rent a car for the day and take a ride along this magnificent coast. You can drop off at some of the beach cities along the way to lie out for a while and soak in the sun. Santa Monica, Marina Del Ray and Venice Beach are all prime spots for tanners and surfers alike.

Hollywood
The west of downtown LA is Hollywood- and here is where you can take in that iconic sign on the hills. There are plenty of plush restaurants, cafés and sandwich bars for you to drop in on- after you’ve perused through the high street shops and souvenir stores that adorn these flat stretches of sun drenched pavement. Don’t leave without seeing the Hollywood Walk of Fame
